Lets get started…

May 25th, 2010 by Stephanie received No Comments »

Hello and welcome one and all to the Gustaf Skarsgård news blog! I’ve been wanting to do this website for a while now…and i’m excited to say that it’s becoming a reality. There’s still a lot of work to be done over at gustafskarsgard.com, but i’d like to keep on top of things via this blog, so we all know the going’s on of Gurra!

Let’s begin, yeah? Ok, first up…The Way Back
Based on the book The Long Walk by Slavomir Rawicz, The Way Back tells the story of soldiers escaping a Siberian gulag in 1940. Gustaf reportedly will be playing Voss, a young Latvian prisoner with the group escaping one of the cruelest Siberian prison camps of its time. The movie is directed by Peter Weir who’s also directed such films as Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show and Master and Commander, and stars Colin Farrel, Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess and Saoirse Ronan. Shooting began March 2009 in Bulgaria, with the storyline taking them to India and Morocco. Premier is scheduled for winter 2010.

Next up…Puss/Trust Me

Produced by St. Paul Film in Stockholm, it was originally scheduled to begin filming in Autumn of ’08, but director Johan Kling postponed it due to work related exhaustion. Well, looks like everyone was back in top form because filming resumed in August of this year!
St. Paul’s website gives this synopsis…

- Trust Me is a cynical comedy about misdeeds, intrigue and sex among a group of ambitious young women running an amateur theatre, and the men around them.

The film features Gustaf’s older brother Alexander along with Michael Segerström, Michelle Meadows, Moa Gammel, Susanne Thorson, Lotti Törnros, Philoméne Grandin, Lars Bringås, Rickard Ulfsäter and Vera Vitali.

Next we’ve got…May Fly

Very excited about this! May Fly is a short film directed by Petter Ringbom and stars Serena Reeder and Gustaf! Here’s what the official website has to say…

May Fly explores the relationship between two strangers who meet under curious circumstances. Jimmy and the girl spend a day traveling through Oakland and San Francisco. A shared longing for change brings them together, but while Jimmy is looking to connect, the girl is more interested in escape.

Here’s some stills:

I contacted Petter Ringbom in June to ask him a few questions about the film, and here’s what he had to say…

Thanks for emailing. It’s a short film clocking in around 15 minutes. We shot it in the Bay Area, December last year and we just finished post production. Right now you can’t see it anywhere. It will play at film festivals this year, but where and when is too early to tell. If you keep checking the site we’ll post the dates on there.

Take care /Petter

As of yet there’s nothing up…but i’ll keep checking back!

And I thought i’d save the best for last…Hamlet

Stockholms Stadsteater posted in their 2010 schedule this lovely news…Gustaf is to play Hamlet!

Denmark’s young Prince Hamlet’s heart is near breaking. His beloved father is dead and barely a month after the funeral, his mother has married herself to Claudius- his own uncle. Things have barely had a chance to cool down in Demark and now a new king. Betrayal is too weak a word. What should he do? Just keep going? Impossible. All the love in his life has vanished. Now Hamlet hears a voice calling for revenge. Has sorrow made him mad?

The premiere is set for December 31, 2009…tickets went on sale August 12 over here…and i’m so excited about this i just may have to take a trip to Stockholm next year!
